If you only play on Saturday mornings for instance, and the green fee is $25 your is costing you $1300 a year. Not much point then in forking out $2000 to become a member. Obviously though, looking at those figures, if you played twice a week you would be wise to take up the offer of country club membership.
Country club membership isn't just about though and you should check what else is on offer such as a sauna and spa, gym, pool, tennis courts etc. As a player you should find out if there is a members league, how many competitions a week etc. Also, if you are taking a family membership, what is the youth program like for the younger members of your family and is there much for your partner to get involved in if is not there thing.
There is also the status that comes with being a member of the local country club. Many a country club house is the hub of the local social calendar. It can be an important place to socialize and drum up business for your company and for your children to learn the correct etiquette. These are all things you will probably consider when deciding wether to become a full member or not.
If you are a typical golfer though your main concern will be the course and so check out other advantages to membership that are often included. Many clubs for instance offer between a 10% and 20% discount
in the club house, a discount to any none members you may bring along for a game and quite often you will be entitled to preffered tee off times.
Some country clubs offer a monthly membership which can be a good idea if you are new to the area and want to try several courses before deciding on which country club you will be joining.

These homes are designed with the retirement couples in mind and often come with country club membership, or at the very least, a discount.
